FAQ

Q:What is the classification of sealant?

A:Sealant generally has acid and neutral two systems. Acid silicone sealants in acid systems have excellent adhesion to common bathroom or kitchen substrate surfaces such as glass or ceramics, making them ideal for use. When sealing substrates such as metal, plastic or concrete, a neutral sealant must be used. Neutral silicone sealants are particularly suitable for use as non-corrosive seals for joint and expansion joints.

Q:How to choose the sealant of the contract?

A:When purchasing, we should first consider the use conditions of the sealing part, the material of the sealing pair, the state of the sealing pair, the type, performance and curing conditions of the sealed medium. Secondly, conditions such as force state, working temperature, environment and whether the sealing pair needs detachable should be considered. Take these factors into consideration and make reasonable purchases.

Q:What are the advantages of silicone sealant?

A:

  • Weather resistance and high temperature resistance: Silicone sealant has excellent weather resistance and high temperature resistance, making it have excellent performance in outdoor and high temperature environments.

  • Water resistance and chemical stability: silicone sealant also has excellent water resistance and chemical stability, which can effectively prevent the penetration of water vapor and chemical substances, thereby improving the durability and safety of the building.

  • Thermal conductivity: silicone sealant has thermal conductivity after curing, especially the thermal conductivity of single-component silicone sealant is very prominent after curing, which can make the electrical heating element problem in the balance stage and is not easy to burn.

  • Insulation performance: silicone sealant after curing insulation performance is outstanding, single component silicone sealant after curing insulation coefficient is relatively high, can strengthen the overall insulation index of electrical appliances, make electrical appliances safer to use.

  • Environmental protection: High quality silicone sealant will not smell pungent odor during construction, only light alcohol taste. The smell does not affect health and does not cause disease.

  • Applicability: The applicability of silicone sealant is very strong, can be used in many environments for a long time, and will not be easily eroded by external factors.

  • Adhesive force and tensile strength: The adhesive force and tensile strength of silicone sealant are very large, and can be bonded with many materials to resist external pressure and extrusion.

  • Long-lasting sealing: Low-modulus silicone weather-resistant sealants maintain a stable seal in a variety of environmental conditions.

  • In summary, the advantages of silicone sealant include but are not limited to its weather resistance, high temperature resistance, water resistance, chemical stability, thermal conductivity, insulation, environmental protection, applicability, adhesion and tensile strength, and durable sealing. These advantages make silicone sealant an indispensable material in many fields such as construction, electronics, and electrical appliances.

Q:Is high modulus or low modulus better for weatherproof sealant?

A:Weatherproof sealant are divided into high modulus and low modulus based on their modulus. The difference is that under 100% elongation, tensile strength  higher than 0.4MPa indicates high modulus, while those lower than 0.4MPa indicates low modulus. Correspondingly, in application scenarios, the stress generated by the same distance of tensile compression at curtain wall construction joints corresponds to high or low. Therefore, when using materials with lower strength, such as aluminum plates and composite plates, for exterior wall materials in construction projects, It is strongly recommended to use low modulus weather resistant adhesive as a waterproof joint material to reduce the force of weather resistant adhesive on building materials and prevent material deformation and damage. If the external wall material in the project is high-strength and high hardness materials such as insulating glass, there is no impact, and both high and low modulus weatherproof sealant can be used.

Q:What are the main items of applying silicone sealant at low temperatures?

A:The recommended temperature for sealant construction is 5-40 ℃ and the relative humidity is above 35%. Generally speaking, the lower the ambient temperature and humidity, the slower the curing speed of the sealant. In the late autumn, winter, and early spring, the temperature and humidity of the environment are relatively low (especially in the northern regions of China), and the curing speed of the sealant slows down. Some areas may experience long-term non curing of the sealant, which can easily affect construction efficiency and quality. Before construction, it is necessary to ensure that the compatibility and adhesion test of the sealing adhesive with the substrate and related accessories are qualified. The sealant is within its storage period, and the quality performance of the sealant after surface drying and curing meets the usage requirements. Due to the lack of strict regulations on the environmental conditions for the application of sealant products in the relevant standards for sealant and technical specifications for building curtain walls, users should try their best to follow the construction environmental conditions recommended by the sealant manufacturer during the construction process. If the user needs to apply sealant in low temperature conditions (below 5 ℃), it is recommended as follows: confirm with a small area of sealant in advance: clean and apply primer if necessary: extend the curing period of the sealant; Random on-site adhesion test.

Q:What are the main reasons for the swelling of silicone sealant seams?

A:Bulging is the result of a combination of factors such as the curing speed of the adhesive (relatively slow curing speed), environmental humidity (humidity below 30%), environmental temperature difference, adhesive seam width, panel material and size, etc. All of these factors are unfavorable and have a higher probability of occurrence. The glue is applied between the aluminum plates of the external wall of the building. The aluminum plate is a material with a large expansion coefficient. The temperature difference between day and night is large during construction. The large aluminum plate also has more thermal expansion, and the interface displacement is large. The actual displacement of the interface after the silicone sealant is caulked is borne by the glue joint. During the curing process of the silicone sealant, excessive and repeated expansion displacement will cause the glue joint to fold and bulge.
